Hola from Mendoza, Argentina!
We (very) reluctantly said our
goodbyes to Mr. Rodrigo and his family and boarded our (very nice!) bus from
Santiago to Argentina last Sunday morning. The bus was complete with reclining,
leather seats, snacks, hot drinks, and lunch, and even a movie to help you
through the very windy (and infamous) 28 switchbacks across the Andes from
Chile and into Argentina. It was supposed to be an 8 hour trip including the
border crossing but it ended up only being 6 ½ hours. The border crossing was
efficient and the drivers of the bus helped you through customs and bag checks and
within the hour, we were back on the road. We arrived in Mendoza around 2pm,
met our host, Colin, and settled in nicely to our 4 bedroom apartment. Mike’s
parents (who arrived yesterday!) will stay with us for the week so we needed a
bigger place this time.
It’s Autumn in Mendoza this time of
year and we spent the week relaxing, napping, and picnicking in the many parks. The leaves are turning and falling and it makes for a perfect setting for sipping wine and watching the kids play. The light is pink in Paris? Well, the light is golden in Mendoza.
Mike took the boys to the Natural
History Museum of Mendoza and they spent a couple hours looking at the
artifacts, animals, and space exhibits. A great (and free!) way to spend the
morning.
Mike also spent two days this week
touring several real estate opportunities and even found a plum plantation that
we are very interested in! More on that later…
We spent a nice evening walking
around the main plaza of Mendoza, Plaza Independencia, and played at the
playground, perused the many vendors, and ate dinner al fresco at a patio café.
It was a great week here in Argentina
and we can’t wait to spend another one with our first set of visitors, GMa and
Poppy! Stay tuned for our adventures with them next week!
Wow! I can't imagine doing this with 3 little kids. Argentina looks incredible. Deep sigh and a bit of longing.....
ReplyDeleteSorry for the delayed response. We just had family visit for the first time, now we're in southern Argentina for a short time before making our way back into Chile. Thanks for visiting and commenting on the blog Casa. At times, it's been a trying trip, but for the most part, it has been an incredible experience. We've seen the kids develop so much in such a short period of time and my wife and I have become closer than ever.
